Spring Bloom Cyanotype

Spring has sprung, and while we're about to get hit by a snowstorm soon (yay, Utah Spring!), the last week of weather has been fantastically beautiful and sunny, giving our tiny hyacinth the perfect opportunity to pop off.

I usually revel in their scent when I walk outside, but with the snow coming and the fact that there are only 3 because I never planted these arrant stray bulbs, I decided to pick them to bring their loveliness indoors and commemorate their outlines via cyanotype!

Featuring: Aurifil 12wt Thread

I've been trying to sneak in a lot more hand-stitching projects lately, and I can't describe how lovely a spool of 12wt thread is to work with. The instant gratification of seeing your work come to life little by little is so special to me, as I feel like motherhood and running a pattern design business is more in the ballpark of "wait and see" when it comes to reaping what I've sown (sewn.. hehe).

About the cyanotype process..

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that creates vibrant blue prints. It was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel and is one of the oldest photographic printing processes. While traditionally used with paper, this workshop focuses on applying the process to fabric, allowing participants to create unique blueprints on textiles.

I was so lucky to teach a couple of cyanotype workshops at QuiltCon 2025 in Phoenix and have been awaiting an opportunity to do some more printing since! Getting paid to teach what you love is so fabulous, but sometimes, you just need some time to play, too!

I'm currently offering this workshop to guilds and other groups! If you'd like to look into offering cyanotype as an upcoming event, head to my workshop page to send the inquiry form!
